What is PUSH! Film Festival?
3 Awards. 2 States. 1 Film Festival.
October 12, 2019 at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum
PUSH! Film Festival, held in Historic Downtown Bristol, TN/VA, is a competitive festival and celebration of the cinematic and visual arts. PUSH! spotlights films that provoke thought and spur action. We're a change agent — challenging filmmakers and filmgoers to push boundaries and push the envelope — to move and be moved through cinema. By bringing diverse films to our community and showcasing the best regional filmmakers, PUSH! aims to expand the artistic image of our region, engage new audiences in the world of film, and inspire creativity in all of us.
In addition to a diverse variety of curated films, the film festival – now in its fifth year– hosts competition films, exciting parties and get-togethers, and a variety of educational opportunities for filmmakers and audience members of all ages. Films and workshops are held in historic downtown Bristol at the Smithsonian-affiliated Birthplace of Country Music Museum.
We believe in empowering filmmakers by giving them a platform to share thoughtful ideas through any genre. Sure, there are awards to be won, but we also put a lot of focus on the overall festival experience. To us, it's about community, conversation, and calls-to-action. It's also about showcasing quality storytelling and providing filmmakers with a chance to network and grow through a variety of interactive experiences and social events.
We pride ourselves on being a filmmaker's film festival. We especially want filmmakers who attend the festival to feel like welcomed guests. Official Selection filmmakers attending in PUSH! will receive VIP passes to the festival. Official Selection filmmakers may also request 1 complimentary pass that they may use for a member of their crew, cast, family, etc.
Hosted in twin cities that know no borders, PUSH! provides the platform. You provide the perspectives.
The original Bristol sign, built in 1910, carried the slogan "PUSH! That's Bristol" to reflect the push in growth Bristol was undergoing in the early 1900s.
By 1915, the sign had been moved to span State Street, and in 1921, the old slogan was replaced with the current one: "Bristol: A Good Place to Live."
Based on that cool history, we named the festival PUSH!, a shout-out to the growth in arts, culture and heritage happening in our town.
But that’s not the only reason we chose “PUSH!” – it’s a fun play on words, as you push “play” to start a film, and all films within the festival are required to push boundaries, provoke thought, and spur action – inspiring us all to move and be moved through cinema.
